Counseling for College Students

Leaving high school and starting college is such an exciting time!  And it can also be incredibly stressful.  You are older and maybe a little wiser, but that doesn't mean you have left all of your mental health struggles behind.  It makes sense that the same anxiety, fear, self-doubt, or depression you experienced at home might follow you to college.  Or maybe the new environment and new expectations are causing new doubts, stresses and fears.

We know many college students struggle with:

  • low self-esteem/lack of confidence
  • self-doubt/concerns about being successful in college
  • difficulty managing stress (sometimes leading to self-injury or drug/alcohol use)
  • difficulty with relationships (parents, siblings, friends)
  • inability to handle conflict
  • doubts/fears about the future
  • anxiety
  • depression

How can we help?

Therapy is about so much more than just giving you a place to vent and someone to listen to you.  Our approach to counseling is strengths-based and solution-focused.  With every  client we meet, we seek to:

Discover (or uncover) your strengths.

We look at how you have successfully managed difficult situations in the past and how those strengths can be applied to your new college situation.

Encourage Self-Reflection

We help you look inward and be honest about what you value and what your priorities are. It is so empowering  to reflect on what matters deeply to you – not  what matters to your parents or professors or friends—but to you as an individual.

Visualize How Things Can Be Different

Whether it’s approaching life with more confidence, coping with stress in healthier ways or building stronger friendships, we ask our  clients to focus on the life they wish to have and then work together on strategies for making that happen.

Empower You to Make Changes

We provide guidance, strategies and skills to help you make the changes you have identified. We give you a safe place to dream, plan and try something new and also a safe place to share disappointment, struggles and frustration when there are obstacles or setbacks.

We can work with you even if you've moved away from home!
